New Scotch released as global interest soars

KILCHOMAN DISTILLERY

When Scotland’s youngest, smallest and most westerly distillery opened its doors in 2005, it brought a wave of excitement across whisky lovers worldwide. Kilchoman on Islay was the first distillery to be built on the island in 124 years and was intended to give a true ‘grass roots’ experience of whisky – a true farm distillery from barley to bottling.
On 9 September 2009, Anthony Wills, MD of Kilchoman, unveiled the very first bottle of mature spirit from the distillery at a luncheon held there for over 200 guests. The next day, the Limited Edition 3 Year Old Single Malt, retailing at £45, had sold out in the UK, the same applied when it reached its 14 worldwide markets.
Having originally designed the brand identity, visitor centre display materials, signage etc in 2005, Craig Mackinlay of Breeze Creative worked closely with Anthony Wills on creating packaging that would reflect the distillery’s very traditional farming distilling ethos but would also be fresh and vibrant as a newcomer to the global market. The packaging is a brilliant blue, reflecting Islay’s pure water, with gold foil embossing reminiscent of golden barley and the whisky.
The new release has come at a time when global interest in scotch whisky has never been stronger and Islay welcomes people from all over the globe to its 8 distilleries.
